On a drizzling Friday, a gathering of Lincolnshire’s heritage enthusiasts learnt about planning for the future of their treasured heritage assets.
This workshop was delivered by Heritage Lincolnshire in partnership with Rose Regeneration and included: a crash course in business planning, capturing audiences and, importantly, proving the impact of heritage groups’ work.
Protecting heritage assets is increasingly about the social engagement, as well as planning for the bricks and mortar of the unique buildings and historical sites that we value. And it isn’t always easy.
Liz Bates, Heritage Lincolnshire CEO, shared that whilst heritage in Lincolnshire has previously been supported by one kind of mixed-income economy focused on heritage grant funding and Local Authorities, into the future our charity, like many modern charities, will need to seek an even more diverse and robust income strategy to continue to be able deliver all of their charitable objectives.
Ivan Annibal of Rose Regeneration explained that any group can invest in a bid writer, but a more successful organisation will develop a dynamic business plan which reflects the spirit of an organisation. This strategy helps all volunteers and employees feel invested in the vision and future of their team.
This session taught exactly how to carry out this process. Ivan set the scene of contemporary understanding of the value of heritage. The pith of the session was an exploration of how to structure a business plan. Liz followed, offering a structure to develop ideas and audiences into a vision for an impactful business plan.
After sandwiches, the group braved the rain for a tour of hidden Lincoln, discovering the secrets at the heart of the historic city.
