Community Engagement and Volunteering Co-ordinator

Opportunity to join Heritage Lincolnshire’s amazing Heritage Team. The Kickstart Scheme is a 6-month paid job and there are four positions available at Heritage Lincolnshire including 2 Heritage Conservation trainee roles, one digital engagement role and one Community Engagement Co-ordinator role. You can apply for a Kickstart Scheme if you are claiming Universal Credit and are aged 16 to 24 years old.

The Volunteer Coordinator will work alongside the volunteering lead for Heritage Lincolnshire, to support work which needs to take place prior to the 2022 Investors In Volunteering accreditation.  This will mean engaging our existing volunteers in discussions (predominately over the telephone), asking about their existing experience and their continued interest in volunteering and building a picture of the needs of our current volunteering base (c250 volunteers). They will gain experience of understanding legislation around volunteering (such as GDPR) and the importance of volunteering within the heritage sector.  They will manage and update volunteering records, and review our existing volunteering documentation, identifying areas requiring updating.

The successful applicant will gain opportunities to learn about Community Engagement through heritage through shadowing and assisting with events.

The young person will be required to be based at home for three days a week and based in the office for the other two days.  They will be provided with a organisational laptop and mobile telephone.  The hours of work are built around when it is most likely to be able to contact volunteers, but also to allow the Senior Manager to devote two days a week to a specific mentoring programme of work.  The skills the young person will acquire include increasing confidence in communicating (and in particular inter-generational communication skills as many of our volunteers are retired), management of data, the ability to prioritise and carry out tasks and gain familiarity in using the Office365 Suite (particularly Outlook, Word and Excel) in a professional context.

The essential skills the young person will need are a willingness to communicate over the telephone and ask questions (they will be provided with additional support to increase their confidence and communication skills), basic proficiency in using email, Word and Excel.  A friendly, outgoing personality is considered important for this position. A minimum of a GCSE pass in English and Mathematics (or equivalent) is required and a genuine interest in the heritage and/or volunteering sector.
