Ancient warfare

Ancient warfare covers a period from the earliest times through to the end of the Anglo-Saxon period.

Although warfare was predominantly based on infantry hand-to-hand combat, there are a number of landscape features associated with ancient military campaigns in the form of roads, fortifications and settlement sites.
