A Virtual Walking Tour of Kirton and Cake at The Old King’s Head.
6 February 2022 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and part of The Old King’s Head Project, Heritage Lincolnshire have been working with some incredible volunteers to develop a Virtual Walking Tour for you to join us on to explore and discover Kirton and The Old King’s Head whilst having some cake!https://www.heritagelincolnshire.org/projects/the-old-kings-head We will take you on a virtual tour around the village discovering all about the Potato King, historic war figures and Dame Sarah Swift plus lots more! Kirton, now a small village was once a hectic town, the third largest settlement in the county. The history of The Old King’s Head and its custodians reflect the cultural heritage of the local area, prosperous landlords, vigorous rivalries, between the church, barmen and even their own clientele! Virtual tours are approximately one hour and start at 10.30am in our Community Room at The Old King’s Head. Booking is essential as places are limited on each event.
Join us as we give you a virtual walking tour around Kirton from the comfort of a nice warm seat with a cup of tea or coffee and a delicious homemade slice of cake. We will let you know about the 16th Century Coaching Inn that Heritage Lincolnshire has lovingly restored over the past five years and learn more about the property, it’s history and key facts. The inn is a rare example of the Fenland Artisan Mannerist style, a building technique which reveals a unique history of the ebb and flow of Britain’s people. The Old King’s Head tells us about the forgotten importance of the road from London to Boston, once a hub for those who traded, travelled and warred by sea. To find out more about the project please go toAll funds raised will be re-invested into Heritage Lincolnshire as they continue their Buildings Preservation Work across the county.
