HODs – Changes to Farming Industry Over the Previous Millennium

9 September 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Part of the Lincolnshire HODs Festival 2022

This Grade 1 listed building is probably on the site of an earlier pre-Norman church, Domesday Book (1086/7) having a listed church.
William Ermine, who bought the manors of Silkby and Wilgebi (hence the name Silk Willoughby) in 1329/1330, had this church built.
The nave and aisles are Decorated (1329-1336) and the chancel was rebuilt in 1878 in the Perpendicular style.
There is a wooden Jacobean pulpit and a lectern in the form of an upstanding wooden eagle on a triangular base.
The Norman font is a drum shaped bowl in stone and is more than 200years older than the church.
The 14th or 15th century pews have carved poppy head ends. There are many examples of interesting graffiti.
