St. Nicolas has been a feature of its local landscape for 800 years. Ever present as local structures rise and fall, and acting as a waypoint for travellers on land and on the nearby River Humber estuary. In common with many churches and before the advent of satellite technology, it was used as a trig point on the local ordnance survey maps.
