Walking Tour of Kirton and Cake at The Old King’s Head.
27 May 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and part of the Old King’s Head Project, Heritage Lincolnshire has been working with some incredible volunteers to develop a Walking Tour for you to join us on to explore and discover Kirton, the Old King’s Head and then afterwards some cake!
Join us as we give guided talks around Kirton and let you know about the 16th Century Coaching Inn that Heritage Lincolnshire has lovingly restored over the past five years. You’ll learn about the property, it’s history and key facts. The inn is a rare example of the Fenland Artisan Mannerist style, a building technique which reveals a unique history of the ebb and flow of Britain’s people. The Old King’s Head tells us about the forgotten importance of the road from London to Boston, once a hub for those who traded, travelled and warred by sea. To find out more about the project please go to The Old King’s Head
Take a walk around the village with us discovering all about the Potato King, historic war figures and Dame Sarah Swift plus lots more! Kirton, now a small village was once a hectic town, the third largest settlement in the county. The history of the Old King’s Head and its custodians reflect the cultural heritage of the local area, prosperous landlords, vigorous rivalries, between the church, barmen and even their own clientele!
Afterwards join us in the cafe for a cup of tea or coffee, and a slice of homemade delicious cake as part of your ticket price.
Tours are approximately one hour and you will require sensible footwear.
Booking is essential as places are limited on each tour.
All funds raised will be re-invested into Heritage Lincolnshire as they continue their Buildings Preservation Work across the county.
Member tickets cost £8 – Non-member tickets cost £10, both include cake and tea/coffee. Tickets can be bought from our online shop and, if this isn’t the first time you’ve paid a bit more, why don’t you become a member and start saving!
Please note, if the weather is poor, a virtual tour will be offered in The Old King’s Head Community Room.
St Peter and St Paul’s Church, tours are currently scheduled for 16th January, 13th February and 13th March all at 1pm. If you wish to join one of these, please contact the Churchwarden Fay Baillie via email fayngeoff@gmail.com
There is no charge for the church tours but donations for the roof fund are very welcome.
