Description
Sleaford Castle was habitable for at least 400 years from the early 12th to the mid 16th century, after which it gradually declined to become the remaining earthworks we see today. Aspects of the broader history of those years are set out in relation to the overall story of Sleaford Castle to uncover a wider understanding of this important ancient monument.
The story continues; in 2023, the first archaeological excavations were carried out at the Castle site for over 150 years. The results have culminated in the first digital representations of Sleaford Castle, some of which are included here. These results, and the setting of the Castle into the contemporary landscape, have provided a means to appreciate the site in a fresh way. Sleaford has a rich history and archaeology and there is still much to uncover about its Castle.
