The Bristol Fountain was built in 1874 to provide safe drinking water to the people of Sleaford, many of whom were living in slums and using water for washing and drinking taken from the River Slea.
The Question

Look at the roof of the columned structure covering the fountain, the fruit can be seen carved into every side of it.

The Answer
There are grapevines carved into the roof. Vines were a popular decorative theme in the 18th Century and may be in reference to the fountain making ‘water as wine’; providing clean and drinkable water to the population of Sleaford.
